A Little About Serra

Serra Preschool is a parent participation co-op.  This allows us to share in a most important aspect of our child’s education – his or her first experience.

Hours
Monday, Wednesday, & Friday (4 & 5 year-olds class)  9:00 am – 12:15 pm
Tuesday & Thursday (3 & 4 year-olds class)  9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Parent Participation
Enthusiastic parent participation keeps us running efficiently and allows us to keep our fees low. Parents are scheduled to work at Serra approximately 2-4 mornings a month in their child’s class. Siblings are not allowed while the parent is working.

Snacks
Parents are scheduled to bring a nutritious snack approximately once every 8 weeks on one of their scheduled workdays. You may want to bring a snack that the children can help prepare.

Monthly General Meetings
Attendance at our monthly general meetings is mandatory. At the general meetings we discuss future activities, fundraisers, field trips, and resolve any questions which have come up during the month. As parents, this is our opportunity to have a voice in the development & enrichment of our children’s education. Following the business portion of the meeting we invite a speaker to discuss one of a variety of topics that is pertinent to families with young children!

Assigned Jobs
Each parent volunteers for a job. Jobs include responsibility for arranging field trips, making play dough, tending to the garden, setting the work-day schedule, cleaning out the sheds, just to name a few. We have roughly 40 families with 40 different jobs, and we work with you to find a great fit!

Fundraisers
Serra Preschool is a non-profit organization. Therefore, in order to keep the school running, parents are expected to enthusiastically participate in fundraising! Parents have the opportunity to meet their Fundraising Minimum requirement through a variety of fundraisers, if they choose. Fundraising Minimum can always be paid as a separate “buy out” without any actual fundraising requirement.
