Participating Family Requirements
Enthusiastic parent participation keeps our school running efficiently and keeps tuition low. Requirements for participation include:
- In-class working days
- Fullfilling duties of a school job
- Monthly meeting attendance
- Full participation in fundraising
- Participation in at least one 6 week clean up day
In-Class Working Days
Parents assist in the classroom approximately two to four mornings a month. Siblings are not allowed at school during a parent's working day (exception for siblings 9 months and younger who must be confined in a sling, carrier or the similar during school). Each parent is scheduled once every six to eight weeks to bring a nutiritious snack for the entire class as part of their assisting day commitment. We encourage parents to bring snacks children can prepare themselves. Talk to your teacher for ideas and input.
School Job
In a parent co-op, parents maintain and operate the school through various volunteer positions including: purchaser, field trip coordinator, ways and means chairperson, and critter care, just to name a few. Each member family is responsible for holding and fulfilling a school job.
Monthly General Meeting
Attendance at our monthly general meeting (held the fourth Wednesday of every month) is mandatory. General meetings provide school membership with information regarding upcoming field trips, fundraisers, activities, and general school business. These meetings provide parents the opportunity to provide input regarding development and enrichment of the school. Following the meeting's business portion, the school invites a speaker to educate parents on a variety of topics regarding child development.
Fundraising
Serra Preschool is a non-profit organization that relies on fundraising to supplement tuition income. Money raised goes to enhancing the facility or curriculum.
