As part of the ongoing curriculum focused on developing the whole child, we utilize focused educational programs. Currently, we are studying dinosaurs. This program includes a real, live working "Research Station." Here, we've decorated a room as a cave with dinosaur bones in the walls. We can thank our parent, Annette, for a great production. Inside, we find many common tools found in archaeological digs around the world.
We hope to foster creative and analytical pathways by discussing data and how it might be processed for scientific categorization. Students enjoy numerous activities associated with the program including: finding hidden plastic dinosaur bones buried in sand toys; using magnifying glasses to review the texture of rock and bones; and an interactive, tactile activity where plaster of paris is set into play boxes for children to interact with. Finally, to top off our time studying dinosaurs, we'll light our student created plaster of paris volcano.
